Autumn NCS

The National Citizenship Service (NCS) team have been busy this week spreading the word about the Autumn NCS programme that  commences in the October half term.

They have been visiting local high schools and colleges to talk to 16-17 year olds about what the NCS programme is and what they will be doing on the autumn trip.

I hear you ask ‘what will be going on, on the trip?’  Well it all starts on Sunday 30th October where the students will depart for ROCK UK at the Scottish borders where they will participate in outdoor activities such as rock climbing and kayaking before returning on Wednesday 2nd November. Once back in Accrington they will begin to plan their social action that will be based around the issues in the local community. Once they have decided on a plan they will then deliver it before graduating on the 19th November at the Accrington Stanley v Stevenage match at half time.

Before the trip there will be ‘Meet, Greet and Games’ night on the 21st October 2016 where the students will be able to meet everyone that is going on the trip.

The NCS is a government scheme that is only offered to 16-17 year olds across the country. It brings together students from different back grounds and requires them to work as a team while building their confidence and attitudes. The NCS qualification is signed by the Prime minister and recognised by UCAS employers.

On average the NCS per student cost £1,500 however, the cost that is asked for from the students and their family is only £50 for this once in a life time opportunity!
