Get Set Go with Stanley this January

This month sees the start of ‘Get set to go with Stanley’ which sees Accrington Stanley Community Trust team up with Lancashire Mind and Lancashire Care Foundation Trust Get Set Go.

The football based sessions are designed for those with mental health problems, helping them with any social barriers that they may have, through a fun football session in a relaxed safe environment. The sessions will consist of different training activities as well as small sided games.

The Get Set To Go activities aim to provide participants with activities that are right for them so that the participant stays with that activity in order to feel the many benefits that taking parting in physical activity can do such as improve mental wellbeing and help with self-confidence.

Community Trust Manager, Martin Fearon believes Get Set To Go is an excellent programme for participants to build confidence as it boosts social skills. He said, “Get Set To Go is aimed at improving the participants social barriers by taking part in fun filled football activities. The sessions are open to anyone who feels they need a more inclusive environment which the Get Set To Go programme will provide.”

Liam Challenger, who is the Sport & Physical Activity Coordinator for Get Set To Go added, “The programme aims to improve the lives of people with mental health problems by breaking down the barriers to sport and physical activity. Get Set To Go allows for participants to enjoy sport in a friendly, supportive environment which caters for all levels of ability. Participants will benefit from improved mental and physical wellbeing.’

The sessions will be at Hyndburn Leisure Centre on Wednesdays from 1.30pm to 2.30pm with a cost of £2 per session.
