Girl’s Football Week

Girl’s Football Week

Girls’ Football Week [Monday 23 April – Sunday 29 April] is a national campaign to get as many girls as possible playing the game. It’s a great opportunity to get active, meet new friends and have fun. More info about girls week can be found here http://www.thefa.com/womens-girls-football/get-involved/girls-football-week

During the week we are delivering 15 girls only sessions which will engage with girls from as young as 4 years old right up to over 50s! The sessions are designed to encourage and inspire girls to participate in football. Accrington Stanley Community Trust is committed to promoting girls football throughout the year through several different projects and we hope Girls Football Week will inspire more girls to come and take part regularly.

We run SSE Wildcat sessions in five local primary schools allowing girls to take part in football sessions regularly whether they have played before or not. The aim of these sessions is to inspire the girls as well as to make new friends, develop new skills and to help develop the love of football. We also run regular Premier League Girls session in local high schools to help improve fitness and confidence of the girls taking part. It doesn’t matter if they haven’t touched a ball before the sessions are friendly and a great way to take their first steps into football. This week we are taking a team of under 15’s from Clitheroe Royal Grammar School to an ELFT Futsal Cup to represent Accrington Stanley. Over the last year we have become involved with two community sessions that involve working with local grassroots teams. We have partnered with Haslingden Girls which we are now in our second year of a partnership, we provide support such as an additional qualified coach to their sessions. The partnership allows the profile of Haslingden girls to be raised as well as our qualified coach will help improve their chartered standard, while it allows us to support girls in the local area to play football.

In March last year Accrington Stanley Ladies was formed. The Trust merged with St Joseph’s ladies allowing them to benefit from the expertise and resources that the charity has to offer, while in return Accrington Stanley have their first ever ladies team. In the coming months we will be looking at starting a development squad as well as a junior squad.  For more info regarding our Ladies team please CLICK HERE

To start this we are launching a girl’s development centre that will run one evening a week allowing girls aged 5 to 12 to either take their first steps into football or continue to develop their skills on a regular basis. The centre will build confidence as well as teach different skills weekly ensuring that development and progression of players.
