Accrington Stanley Community Trust recently held their annual Kids Cup competition in partnership with the Football League Trust and Hyndburn & Ribble Valley School Sports Partnership.
A total of 25 schools took part in the competition which included qualifying rounds held at Accrington Academy and St Augustine’s High School. The top four teams from each qualifying day came together on Monday 4th Dec for a finals day held again at Accrington Academy High School.
The 8 teams competing the finals day were;
St Michael & St Johns, Clitheroe
Pendle Primary
St Bartholomew’s, Great Harwood
Huncoat Primary
Salesbury Primary
St Peter & St Pauls, Rishton
St Marys, Oswaldtwistle
St Marys, Langho
All rounds of the competition were played in brilliant spirit with some quality football on display, despite some horrible weather conditions!
It was the battle of the St Mary’s in the final with St Marys Langho eventually beating St Mary’s Oswaldtwistle 2-0 after a closely contested final.
St Marys Langho now go on to represent Accrington Stanley in the northern finals held in March and hosted by Crew Alexandra. They have also been invited to walk out with Accrington Stanley before the game on 20th December against Port Vale.
If St Marys Langho are successful in the next round the national final is played at Wembley Stadium immediately before the league 2 Play Off Final in May.
