In September we will be starting our fifth year of the Football Education Scholarships. We have a handful of places remaining for our new first year cohort.

BTEC Level 3 in Sport

If you enjoy football and also want a first class education then why not consider studying at Accrington Stanley and play football for the club? Football Development Officer Matt Parkinson explains ‘those on the course study Btecs in Sport at the football ground, train 3 times a week with fully qualified coaches and represent the club in the English Colleges 11 a side league and also the North West Futsal League, the course is for those that would like a career in the sports industry and would also like to continue playing football at the same time!’

We offer two courses:

The BTEC Level 2 in Sport is a 1 year course which involves education, work experience, practical training and matches. The course follows the same structure as a college meaning students will find themselves in Monday-Friday within the hours of 9am-4pm term time only. The minimum requirements for this course are 2 D’s or above at GCSE level. Once completed the qualification will lead them to the BTEC Level 3 programme the following academic year.

The BTEC Level 3 in Sport is a 2 year course which involves education, work experience, practical training and matches. The course follows the same structure as a college, meaning students will find themselves in Monday-Friday within the hours of 9am-4pm term time only.

Course Details:

  • Study a Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport – Equivalent to 3 A-Levels and allows entrance to University
  • Up to 17.5 hours of education per week at the stadium.
  • 5 hours of 11aside Football and Futsal training per week.
  • Compete in the English Colleges Category 3 11aside League.
  • Futsal league fixtures against other professional clubs as well as 7 and 11-aside matches.

Entry Requirements:

  • Available to students aged 16-18 on completion of their GCSE’s.
  • A minimum of 4 GCSE’s (including English and Maths) or equivalent at C or above.

 Benefits:

  • Undertake coaching qualifications and refereeing qualifications.
  • Work experience opportunities in the sport and leisure industry.
  • Become a futsal player competing in the FLT Futsal League.
  • Represent Accrington Stanley Football Club
  • Watch the first team play in League Two matches at the stadium.

Wednesday League

Students on both courses study at the Wham Stadium and train three times a week at Hyndburn leisure centre with competitive games of football and futsal.
