Weekly Round Up – 13/05/2016

Although Saturday’s results didn’t quite go the way that everyone was hoping for, the match still had a party atmosphere with the pre match entertainment in the fan zone which included our penalty shootout game.

We had some good goal keepers as well as penalty takers! Even Winstanley had a go in goals while taking a break from meeting many of his fans.

We hope that Annelies and her friends enjoyed her birthday party and meeting Winstanley as well as cheering Stanley on. Our National Citizenship Service (NCS) spring students received their graduation certificates from Scott Brown at half time on the pitch as well as the teams from Burnley Wolves doing a fabulous job at the guard of honour duties and entertaining the crowds with their half time training on the pitch.

Procter Picks up Community Award

Andy Procter picked up the award for Community Player of the Season at half time after he attended a record number of community events throughout the season.

The Stanley player claims the title of Community Player of the Year as judged by a panel of representatives from Accrington Stanley Community Trust. Procter has contributed a great deal both on and off the pitch this season. He is the nominated PFA representative for the Football Club and has visited a number of schools and community events in Hyndburn and surrounding areas. The former reds captain has been one of the most influential senior professionals at the club with over 300 appearances to his name. Procter also gives a lot back to the community outside of football hours and has been recognised for his contribution to community initiatives over the past year.

Martin Fearon, Community Trust Manager, said: “Andy Procter is the Ambassador of our Sports Participation programme and has supported a number of different projects throughout the season.

“His commitment is fantastic and is a great role model for the young children of the local area. Andy goes beyond the traditional role of a professional footballer and is great at organising other members of the team during community events. Well done Andy!”

This week has seen the Trust recruiting for our National Citizenship Service (NCS) summer programme. Our NCS office Kathryn Hoyle has been busy visiting local schools to speak about the benefits of taking part in the programme. The summer programme runs over four weeks from the 19th July where students will go to The Lakes for the week, the second week then sees them taking part in independent living at UCLAN in Preston and doing activities such as CV writing and interview skills, the third week then sees the students heading back to Accrington Stanley Football Club to plan their social action plan and finally the fourth week sees them carrying out their social action plan. ‘We are getting great feedback from previous students that have been on the trip and we want to offer the summer programme to as many 16-17years as possible in the local area’, commented Kathryn Hoyle NCS Officer.

Kathryns not the only one that has been busy recruiting. Matt Parkinson our Football Development Officer has been busy attracting 16 to 18 year olds to our Football Education Scholarship. If you have a passion for football then why not consider a scholarship with Accrington Stanley. You have the benefits of representing Stanley in 11 aside matches as well as futsal matches, opportunities to go on trial with our academy under 18s and Lancashire FA under 18s as well as the scholarship being recognised by universities. Sound interesting? Get in contact with Matt for more information at matt.parkinson@stanleytrust.co.uk or visit http://www.stanleytrust.co.uk/futsal-education-scholarsh ips/

It was a messy session at Redz this week. With paint not just on the paper but on arms and hands too!! We had great fun drawing our arms and decorating them as well as painting pebbles that everyone had brought and we can’t forget CJ’s car drawn by Kathryn. Love the paint job! We think that they have been very creative this week! Please note that due to Stanley being at home next Wednesday that there will not be a Redz session.

Don’t forget our walking football session at Hyndburn at 1.30pm until 3pm and our Friday night football 6pm to 8pm!!

Here’s to Saturday’s result being what Stanley need!
