UCLAN Taster Day

UCLAN Taster Day

Every year we visit local universities with our BTEC students so that they can see what courses are on offer as well as experience a lesson and have the chance to meet the sports staff.

On Thursday our students spent the day at UCLAN in Preston to see what opportunities there are there once they have completed their studies here at the Trust. While there, they took part in a coaching practice session which showed them different learning techniques. As well as taking part in a benchball session encouraging the students to think about the S.T.E.P principle. It was a session focused on how to adapt sessions based on different abilities in the group. While at UCLAN the students got to meeting some of the staff and asking them any questions that they had.

Matt Parkinson, Football Development Officer commented,’ It’s great to be able to physically show the lads what options are out there once they have finished their studies and for them to talk to the university staff about what routes they could go down at university, such as PE teaching, sports coaching to sports science degrees. We hope the trip has given the lads something to think over and that there are other roles in sports that are just as prestigious as being a footballer.

If your 16 to 18 and would like the chance to learn, train and play why not do a BTEC in Sports with us! We offer two courses:

The BTEC Level 2 in Sport is a 1 year course which involves education, work experience, practical training and matches. The course follows the same structure as a college meaning students will find themselves in Monday-Friday within the hours of 9am-4pm term time only. The minimum requirements for this course are 2 D’s or above at GCSE level. Once completed the qualification will lead them to the BTEC Level 3 programme the following academic year.

The BTEC Level 3 in Sport is a 2 year course which involves education, work experience, practical training and matches. The course follows the same structure as a college, meaning students will find themselves in Monday-Friday within the hours of 9am-4pm term time only.

The benefits of doing the course with us is that you get to represent Accrington Stanley, have exit routes in to university, have the ability to gain coaching and refereeing qualifications and become a futsal player competing in the FLT Futsal League.
