People living in Hyndburn are set to benefit from fresh investment into local football facilities. Accrington Stanley Community Trust have been awarded a grant of £25,000 from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation, to revamp the grass football pitches at Stanley Sports Hub.
The Football Foundation is the UK’s largest sports charity and exists to improve the experience of playing football for everyone, by championing fair access to quality facilities.
This grant will enable Accrington Stanley Community Trust to improve the current grass pitches which are in desperate need of a revamp and new drainage system.
Participants will be able to enjoy better quality grass pitches, which will represent a significant improvement on the existing pitches which are prone to waterlogging.
Accrington Stanley Community Trust worked with the Football Foundation and the Lancashire FA to secure a £25,000 grant towards the project.
Martin Fearon, CEO at Accrington Stanley Community Trust, said: “The grass pitches at the Stanley Sports Hub were in desperate need of a new drainage system and overhaul of the current surface. Since taking over the site 2 years ago, the grass pitches have been used just a handful of times due to their poor condition.
We are absolutely delighted that the Football Foundation have once again supported grassroots football in our area by providing this welcomed contribution towards the revamp works which is essential in resolving the drainage issues that have hindered participation on these pitches for the last few years.’’
Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “This grant award to Accrington Stanley Community Trust towards revamping their grass football pitches is great news for the local community.
“It will support people’s ability to play our national game locally and therefore help unlock football’s many benefits to physical and mental wellbeing. That’s why we’re committed to transforming the face of grassroots football facilities in this country. It’s therefore very welcome news to hear that this funding will support Accrington Stanley Community Trust in providing better facilities for their local community.
“The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA, government and Sport England – support facility development projects like this across the country over the next decade to transform our grassroots game and unlock the power of pitches.”
