Dig out that Stanley Shirt and give Walking Football ago!

Football isn’t just for the under 50’s! Walking football is for all those players that are aged over 50 but don’t want to give up the game they love. Our participants are a testament to the fact that age is just a number!

The sessions bring together different people with different backgrounds from the local community and make football more accessible for those that may struggle with the pace of mainstream football. All though it is a lower intensity version of the beautiful game, it is designed to increase your cardiovascular fitness alongside being a great way to socialise with people with the same passion.

Participants from the sessions have seen health benefits such as increased fitness and mobility while attending these sessions. It’s not only the physical wellbeing that can be improved, it’s a great way to boost participant’s mental health not least their self-confidence and self-esteem.

The rules of walking football are similar however there are a few differences. The free kicks are indirect, kick-ins replace throws, there are no offsides, the ball must be kept below head height and as the name suggests the participants must walk rather than run or jog.

‘It takes me back to my youth as well as giving me social enjoyment while being something that is good for me’ commented one participant.

If it’s a weekly game of football you are after or if you enjoy a competitive match we have you covered. We regularly enter local walking football competitions and have a couple already planned for May and June this year.

So if you are still wondering whether or not to play, come down to our sessions every Friday 1.30pm to 3pm at Hyndburn Leisure Centre and try it for yourself.
