DIVERT is a police custody intervention programme that helps to reduce reoffending in young adults aged 18-35 who are being detained for violence.
Following on from the adult programme’s successful implementation in Lancashire (having originated in London with the Metropolitan Police), the programme is now being rolled out to youngsters through DIVERT Youth.
DIVERT Youth will be supporting local youngsters aged 10-17 who either live in or are educated in Lancashire and are known to offend or be at risk of offending behaviours in the future.
The programme will be offering a holistic approach with a whole host of highly beneficial services such as: wraparound support, signposting, community activities via the trust and support into activities provided by other local organisations. This will all be aimed at trying to establish the young person’s goal and aspirations, then inspiring them onto a pathway to achieve this.
Kathryn started as our new Divert Youth Coach in September 2021 and has worked for Accrington Stanley Community Trust for over six years on different projects. She has now taken on this new challenge, helping young people across Hyndburn, Ribble Valley and Rossendale.
Kathryn commented “We’re delighted to be able to bring this exciting and engaging programme to the local community. The opportunity to inspire our local youth to set and achieve their goals is something we feel privileged to be part of and lead on.”
