Girls go for goal

Girls go for goal

This week has been the Girls Football Week. Along with thousands of other clubs across the country, we have been holding girl sessions in local schools to try and encourage girls to get more involved with football.

We started the week with a staff v student girl’s shootout at Mount Carmel High school which saw over 25 girls sharpen their penalty taking skills against their head teacher, Mr Bowers who was in nets. The final saw four finalists, Aliya, Mrs Cook, Abbie and Ambar battle each other with the overall winner being the ruthless Aliya.

We have been into local secondary schools to carry out the Premier League Girls Football sessions which have grown in numbers over the last few weeks. With it being girl’s football week we have done intra school tournaments in our sessions to promote healthy competition.

Elle Kayley Female football development officer commented, ‘it’s been a fantastic week seeing so many girls getting involved and taking an interest in football. We hope that this has encouraged girls to come to our Premier League girl’s sessions and partake in our upcoming tournaments’.

Coming up in the near future we have a couple of girl’s tournaments. For year 7 and 8s we have the Kinder +Sport EFL Girls Cup on the 10th November. This is 6 aside cup held at the Hyndburn Leisure Centre at 3.30-5pm.  The finalists will play at Accrington Stanley football club on the 26th November at half time. The winner of the final will go on to represent Accrington Stanley in the regional finals. For year 10 and 11 we have the girl’s futsal cup on the 17th November at Hyndburn leisure centre at 3.30-5pm.

As well as our own sessions we also assist the Accrington Girls and Ladies Fc on a weekly basis by offering our skilled coaches to assist with sessions. They have four girl’s teams ranging from 5 to 16 years old and a ladies team. All sessions are at Hyndburn Leisure Centre, the girls sessions are at 6 to 7pm and the Ladies follow them at 7 to 8pm on a Tuesday. This is a great way for girls to enhance their confidence as well as their football ability.

With girl’s football becoming one of the fastest growing sports in the UK, we are happy to announce that we will be taking on girls on to our BTEC course from September 2017.
