Accrington Stanley Community Trust have been in West End Primary School this week to spread the message about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
After dodging the rain, our coaches and the children ventured outside to participate in different sports sessions such as dodge ball and football. Our coaches showed the children that to be active doesn’t have to be boring! The sessions show how to do the sports safely by teaching the different skills needed but still had that fun element to them. For the younger children we did an additional session where they had to decide what food was healthy and that was classified as junk food.
Amy Bland Female Sports Development Officer commented ‘It’s great to see the children’s opinion of sports change over the few days we are here. A number of children who weren’t keen to join in to start found that they enjoyed the activities that we did and that they were quite good at them!’
Our work experience student Drew Worsley also attended and assisted the coaches ‘I really enjoyed assisting the coaches and getting an insight into the different aspects of the session.’
To end our time at the school this week, we took our inflatable penalty shootout game up for the children to test their penalty taking skills!
