Hyndburn & Ribble Valley Kids Cup Finals Day

Hyndburn & Ribble Valley Kids Cup Finals Day

On Friday 12th November we welcomed 7 local primary schools from the Hyndburn and Ribble Valley area to take part in the Hyndburn and Ribble Valley U11 Kids Cup Finals at a very wet and windy Stanley Sports Hub.

Each season the EFL organises the Utilita Kids Cup  for junior footballers  from schools across the country, with  the finals being played in the build-up  to some of the biggest matches of the domestic season.

Competing for the title of area champion were : Barrow P primary, Peel Park, Salesbury Primary , St Mary’s Clayton, St Mary’s Langho, St Mary’s Oswaldtwistle, and St Wulstan’s. St Peter & St Pauls Primary School also qualified for the finals day but unfortunately had to withdraw due to Covid-19.

The teams had already qualified at previous events ran in September & October. Each team played one another in a round-robin format, with the top four teams progressing to the semi-finals.

The tournament was played in excellent spirit and there was some quality football on display across the fixtures.  In the end joint third place went to St Marys Oswaldtwistle and Peel Park.

After battling not only the other teams but the weather Barrow were crowned the eventual winners of the Utilita Kids Cup Area Final after a tense penalty shootout against Salesbury.

The winners of each Club’s local  competition earn the chance  to represent their Club in the  Regional and National phases of the  competition, where they will face schools representing other EFL clubs.  At every stage of the competitions,  there are some great prizes for  schools to win, such as certificates,  pennants, medals and trophies,  so all participants remember their  achievement of taking part in one of  the country’s largest national football  competitions.
