Ladies Walking Football

Accrington Stanley Community Trust will soon be adding a Ladies Walking Football session to our weekly schedule.

Walking Football is a lower intensity practical activity delivered by the trust and will be available to all females who would like to come and give it a go. It is a brilliant way to exercise and meet like-minded people. No previous experience is necessary.

The new session will start Monday 4th October 11am-12pm at Hyndburn Leisure Centre, indoors.  and will then run every week. If you would like to register to take part please fill out the form at the bottom of this page. The cost of the session is £3 but your first session is free so please come and have a go and see if you like it.

Ann Gibson, who has recently moved to Lancashire is our first member and we are are looking for more ladies to come and give it a go. Ann told us a little bit about why she loves walking football.

”I Played football since I was 5 years old. A lifelong Celtic fan who’s only dream was to play for them. I lived in London for 40 plus years, played occasionally for workplace teams but nothing structured. My local team  in London was Arsenal who I followed. I returned to the game in 2017 playing walking football for Arsenal in the Community. We built a team from 3 to many and played all the London premiership teams home and away. We also played in a number of tournaments with mixed success and in France during the last Women’s Euros.. Walking football gives me and many other older women a chance to revisit old skills, get fit, socialise and have a laugh. Walking football is very accepting of beginners. It’s good for the joints, the mobility, the bone density in older age. Who would have thought that older women would have an opportunity to play the game we left behind all those years ago?”

Anne Elwood is a trustee of Accrington Stanley Community Trust and will also be getting involved with the new session;

”My experience of playing football, has given me a healthy lifestyle and certainly been a part of my life. Playing sport helped me overcome a life threatening illness as a teenager. Football gives you a wonderful experience keeping active, good self esteem, making friends for life! Grateful for a successful playing career at Preston NE and Bronte ladies. Being able to play walking football is a chance to relive the memories, in a fun environment!

Trustee Anne cant wait to get started with the new session
