NCS and Stanley Trust ready to deliver a summer of a lifetime

Accrington Stanley Community Trust is a delivery partner for National Citizens Service and has been for the last 7 years.

This summer we will be bringing back NCS bigger and better than ever. We have a brilliant summer lined up; mixing with new crowds; taking on new challenges together; getting a taste for independence and pick up skills that’ll help you smash your future goals.

NCS is a once-in-a-lifetime experience designed for 16-17-year olds, which takes place all over England and Northern Ireland. Following their GCSEs, thousands of young people will take part in a three/four-week summer programme which will give them a clearer idea of what they want from their future. The programme gets young people mixing with a new crowd, and taking on fresh challenges together. They’ll get a taste for independence and pick up skills that’ll help them smash their future goals. NCSers are given a platform to have their voice heard and an opportunity to pursue a passion project. The NCS experience might last just a few weeks, but the impact? That lasts a lot longer.

The experience, stage by stage:

  • Be Epic: We let our young people feel the freedom of the outside world during five days away from home, taking on adrenaline-fuelled activities
  • Live Life: Living independently (usually in uni halls), young people learn essential life skills from local business leaders and charities, gain confidence in public speaking, communications skills and budgeting
  • Do Good: We empower young people to make their mark where they live. Their team will devise a community project based on an issue they feel passionate about
  • Go Party: Where young people take stock of all they’ve achieved. The challenges they’ve overcome, limits they’ve pushed, friends they’ve made and had experiences they never thought possible.

NCS has rebranded for 2020 with a new look and feel and an emboldening campaign platform which is ‘No We Can’. ‘No We Can’ is a bold, positive and powerful statement that is designed to empower young people in response to all the No’s society can send their way (and also some of the No’s that they tell themselves) – ‘No We Can’ should make everyone feel included and inspired to do more.

– No You Can’t is restrictive

– No You Can’t holds people back

– No You Can’t is patronising

– No We Can is empowering

– No We Can has a can-do attitude

– No We Can tells it like it is

– No We Can is witty
