Stanley Players Attend Holiday Club

Accrington Stanley players Callum Johnson and Joe Pritchard both attended this afternoon’s holiday club at St Christopher’s High School.

The holiday clubs, which are run by the Accrington Stanley Community Trust, have had over 100 children attend over the summer, with both players this afternoon taking part in a Q&A before signing programmes for the children and then joining in with a game of football.

Attacking midfielder Pritchard joined the club in the summer and he acknowledged that it’s important that first team players attend events like this to give the children somebody to look up to as a role model.

“I think it’s important because when I was younger and I was kicking a ball around I would always look up to professionals and whenever you would get the chance to meet a professional, you would see them as role models.

“Now that we’re in that position, we can act as role models and give them something to strive for in the future.”

Speaking about the holiday clubs full-back Johnson added: “It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was one of them kids myself and I was on the courses during the summer holidays and first team footballers used to come in, and I’d listen to everything they said.”

The clubs are run during every school holiday and they allow children to practice their football skills and play lots of small sided games.
