Our Stanley Readers project provides fun and interactive workshops to local primary schools which aim to engage reluctant readers and encourage them to read football related literature. The workshops are aimed at small groups of KS2 children who wouldn’t normally read for pleasure or who might need a bit of inspiration to improve their reading ability.
The project has been trialed in Primary Schools across Hyndburn and the feedback has positive from both the pupils and their teachers.
Teacher from St Marys RC Primary Oswaldtwistle:- ‘The children thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. they look forward each week to the next one! They returned enthusiastically and eager to tell everyone what they had been doing. A good variety of tasks were completed which really motivated the boys and encourage them to read more.’
The projects consist of 6 x 30 mins workshops where a member of the Community Trust’s Primary Stars team will come and work with the group providing a variety of football related resources, such as matchday programmes, player profiles and match reports. The pupils will also be given matchday programmes to take away and will be encouraged to read with their families at home.
