Stanley Sports Hub Update

Stanley Sports Hub Update

In May 2019, the construction works officially started on our new £2 million Sports Hub and state of the art 3G pitch on Thorneyholme Road, after 4 years of meticulous planning.

The aim of the Sports Hub is to increase participation in sport within Hyndburn – deliver education and employability provision, providing equal opportunities and raising awareness of key health incentives for all the community.

Once complete, the Sports Hub will be a multipurpose facility that all of the community can use, whether it’s the use of our pitches or the use of our internal spaces that you require, it can be found at our Sports Hub. It will also facilitate the Community Trust offices who currently have offices based in Oswaldtwistle Mills Conference Centre.

After securing a £1 million grant from the Football Foundation as well as raising a further £1 million pounds through other sources, work commenced on the 3G pitch in July, taking only three months to complete; the Sports Hub building and car park is set to be completed in early 2020.

The 3G pitch has the capability to facilitate 5, 7, 9 and 11 aside matches and is already busy with local grassroots teams and community activities.

The work on the Sports Hub is 80% complete, with all external walls up and the front door being installed just in time for Christmas. Inside it is starting to take shape with internal walls going up outlining each room, wiring nearly complete, tiling and painting has started in the changing rooms and officials’ rooms as well as plaster boarding finishes in the office area, ready to be plastered before Christmas.

On completion the Sports Hub will house the following facilities:

  • A full size floodlit artificial football pitch.
  • Three full size grass sports pitches which can cater for various formats such as 5v5, 7v7, 9v9 and 11v11.
  • A cafeteria with hot and cold refreshments available.
  • Two training rooms which can accommodate up to 30 people each.
  • A meeting room for up to 12 people.
  • 4 full size team changing rooms.
  • Two officials changing rooms.
  • Public toilet facilities.
  • Free onsite parking (up to 75 spaces) for users of the site.
  • Accrington Stanley Community Trust offices.

Martin Fearon, Chief Executive of Accrington Stanley Community Trust commented:

‘’We are delighted with the progress being made at the Sports Hub. The 3G pitch has been fully operational since October, with over 1000 people a week using it. This is going to be a fantastic community facility that we can all be proud of for many years to come. We are looking forward to showing everybody the finished article in a couple of months’ time.’’
