Stanley Team up with Freekicks Foundation

We are delighted to announce for the second season running Accrington Stanley Community Trust have been able to offer 6 free mascot experiences to disadvantaged young people through the generosity of The Free Kicks Foundation.

The Free Kicks Foundation is a Peterborough based charity whose aim is to provide football-related activities for ill, bereaved and disadvantaged young people, to give them a day to remember with their favourite football club. This mostly comes in the form of match day mascots. The children are able to play on the pitch, meet the players and walk out the tunnel with their favourite player.

The foundation has been run voluntary by Sam Downing and Steve Thorpe over the last 12 years, providing over a thousand opportunities up and down the country. They raise their funds through different activities such as runs and donations kindly made by their supporters.

Lee Walsh, Head of Sport commented, ‘It is great to be working with the FreeKicks Foundation once again as it has allowed us to reach more young people who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to be mascot. The young people that took part last season loved their day at the Wham Stadium and we cannot wait to welcome this seasons mascots.’

Our first FreeKicks mascot place will be against Peterborough on the 28th January. Matthew who attends Oliver House School in Chorley is a keen footballer and DJ and is attending with his support staff from Accrington based Limitless SEND Social Care.

The first of our Free Kicks games is the home fixture against Peterborough Utd followed by 5 more games throughout January, February & March.
