Stanley Trust Encourages Children to Read!

Over the last year we have been developing our ‘Read The Game’ project and its now being rolled out across local primary schools.

Our Read The Game project provides fun and interactive workshops to local primary schools which aim to engage reluctant readers and encourage them to read football related literature. The workshops are aimed at small groups of KS2 children who wouldn’t normally read for pleasure or who might need a bit of inspiration to improve their reading ability.

We ahve delivered the project in several local schools and the feedback has been very positive:

Teacher from St Marys RC Primary Oswaldtwistle:- ‘The children thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. they look forward each week to the next one! They returned enthusiastically and eager to tell everyone what they had been doing. A good variety of tasks were completed which really motivated the boys and encourage them to read more.’

The projects consist of 6 x 30 mins workshops where a member of the Community Trust’s Primary Stars team will come and work with the group providing a variety of football related resources, such as match day programmes, player profiles and match reports. The pupils will also be given match day programmes to take away and will be encouraged to read with their families at home. Evidence of work completed can also be provided to the school teachers to illustrate the pupils engagement and achievements
