Stanley Trust weekly roundup of the week

Saturday saw a crucial win against York City for Stanley bringing them nearer to League One.

The lucky mascot was our Junior Redz member Luke Rainford who won the annual prize draw to be a Stanley Mascot. Martin Fearon Community Manager commented ‘Well done to Luke, we hope that he enjoyed the day .’

Matchday also saw the Trust take a number of supporters on stadium tour before the match begun.

This week also saw the return of our futsal games which got off to a great start after the Easter break with wins over Huddersfield 4 – 0 and Blackburn 7-3. Well done boys! ‘It was a great result for our teams and a great confidence builder for them going into the matches next week’ commented Matt Parkinson, Football Development Officer. Next week’s games are against Preston and Rochdale.

With schools back after the Easter break, it has been back to business for our coaches who have been back into schools coaching sessions all around the local area. If your school would like a sports session taught by our coaches please get in contact on 01254 304071.

Although she may have just got back off the spring NCS trip, Kathryn is already planning the summer trip! The summer NCS trip is longer than the spring and autumn with the duration lasting three week. The first week is a residential trip to the Lake District where everyone will get to know one another through outdoor activities. They will then come back home for the weekend before spending a week at ULCAN in Preston where they will learn how to live independently with our staff keeping a close eye on them as well as many other activities such as CV building, cinema and bowling! Then home for the weekend and the final week will be spent at Accrington Stanley Football Club where they will devise a social action plan and carrying it out.

If you enjoy the great outdoors or enjoy meeting new people get in contact on 01254 304071 or email Kathryn.hoyle@stanleytrust.co.uk.

We still have space on our walking football tournament team! Do you and your friends want to represent Accrington Stanley and show off your skills?

“Walking football is a brilliant way to get fitter, make new friends and even re-live those childhood memories” explains Lee who coaches the session. ‘We are looking for our nifty fifties to rediscover their competitive side and join us in Blackpool on 14th May!’

This format of the beautiful game is very similar to the mainstream structure however there are a few modifications. It is non-contact and anyone that sprints, runs or jogs while the ball is in play will be penalised with a free-kick being awarded to the other team. If the ball goes out of play, the game will be restarted with a kick in.

The Trust hold sessions every Friday 1.30pm to 3.00pm at Hyndburn Leisure Centre for only £4 and we even include a brew and biscuit! No need to book just pop on down and show us your skills!

If you want to represent Accrington Stanley on the 14th May in Blackpool then get in contact on 01254 304071 or email admin@stanleytrust.co.uk.

That wraps up the week here at the Trust all that’s left to say is good luck to Stanley against Wycombe this Saturday!
