Success for BRGS Girls in the Utilita EFL Girls Cup

Accrington Stanley started their Utilita EFL U13 girls cup journey on a bitter December afternoon at Stanley Sports Hub. BRGS beat off strong competition from Mount Carmel, Rhyddings, Whitworth Community High, Hyndburn Academy and Ribblesdale to become our girl’s cup winners.

The EFL Girls Cup comprises of six-a-side competitions for U13 school children and culminates in a grand final prior to the EFL Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium in April 2022

With the aim of inspiring girls to be active, healthy and develop a strong sense of teamwork, six local high schools competed for their chance to represent Stanley in the North area finals and hopefully the grand finale at Wembley.

This year’s competition is sponsored by Utilita and their CEO Bill Bullen is pleased to be involved ‘The Beautiful Game has faced unprecedented challenges over the past 18 months, so I’m thrilled that organised competitive sport can take place on a national basis again. It’s really exciting that this includes the Utilita Girls Cup in 2021/22. It’s an honour to be involved’

Lee Walsh, Head of Sports at Accrington Stanley Community Trust said, ‘being able to bring the girls together and provide competitive games in a national tournament is great! There was some tough games in challenging weather. Well done to BRGS who we look forward to seeing represent Accrington Stanley in the next stage.’

The Northern section final will be held at Stanley Sports Hub in Jan 2022.
