Summer Kicks 2019

We are pleased to announce that thanks to the financial support of Earl Transport & Lancashire Partnership Against Crime (LANPAC) we have teamed up with the Lancashire Constabulary to deliver a Summer Kicks Programme that will run throughout the school summer holidays.

We will be delivering 5 weekly sports sessions at different locations across the area for all young people aged 11 to 17 to attend for FREE!

The sessions aim to offer positive activities over the summer for young people to get involved with during the evening and reduce anti social behaviour over the 6 week break. The programme follows on from our successful Kicks project which runs all year round but has never before ran throughout the summer holidays. The sessions will also break down barriers between young people and the police as well as offering further support to individuals in relation to substance abuse and community cohesion.

Head of Sport at Accrington Stanley Community Trust explains ‘This project will give local young people an activity to get involved with over the summer. We regularly hear that young people have nothing to do and we hope this will help address that. We would like to thank Earl Transport for the generous donation of £800 to to ensure this project goes ahead. Thanks also goes to LANPAC for also donating £800 to ensure this is a success’.

Peter Hughes MD of Earl Transport said ‘We are delighted to put something back into our local community and help make a difference to the lives of young people in Hyndburn’. PC Paul Pountain & PCSO Yvonne Thistlethwaite have been involved in the planning and promotion of the project. Paul explains why the project will be so important ‘This Summer Kicks initiative is a way in which the Neighbourhood Policing Team in Hyndburn are looking to engage with our community in a positive way. We are looking to provide activities for young people aged between 11 and 17 years old so that this should prevent some of the antisocial behaviour we have encountered previously during the Summer holidays. We are looking forward to working in partnership with Accrington Stanley Community Trust again this Summer after success with the afternoon sessions last Summer. We are very fortunate to have a League One football team in our town who are willing to assist us in this initiative. We are hoping that moving the sports sessions to the evenings will help reduce the antisocial behaviour incidents further. We are also very grateful to Earl Transport for providing funding for this initiative. As part of the ‘Summer Kicks’ initiative we will be inviting positive role models to speak to the children and this will hopefully be impactive to our young people.
