National Citizen Service (NCS) is a way for 15 to 17 year olds to make extraordinary friendships, learn the skills they don’t teach you in class and create unforgettable memories. interested? Fill in this quick on-line form and we will make sure you get all the info you need!
It all kicks off Sunday 26th July – Friday 30th July with an action packed adventure week in Wales here you’ll live with your team at an outdoor activity centre, getting to know each other and experiencing the freedom of being away from home with new friends. In this week you’ll get the chance to take part in adrenaline-fuelled activities with your team mates like: rock climbing, canoeing, leap of faith and giant zip wire. Staying in purpose built accommodation you will have all your food and drink provided. You will also receive protective and waterproof clothing, so no need to worry about your clothes getting ruined!
After spending the weekend back home we are off again, (Monday 3rd Aug – Friday 7th Aug) you will be reunited with your group to live away from home in university style accommodation in Preston. Not only will you be learning to cook for yourselves (think roast dinners, not beans on toast!), but you’ll also learn some huge life skills that make for a killer CV. You will be first aid trained and go through a self defence course as well as spending time living in a city environment.
The final part of the project gives you the chance to put all the skills and experiences you’ve learnt into practice as a team, agreeing on a social action project that will really make a mark on your local community. Whether that be getting kids of the street with a new youth club, helping the elderly with their gardening or putting on a charity rock concert its up to you!
Once you’ve completed the programme, you’re now part of the bigger NCS family – our grads have the chance to attend some of the greatest shows and events going and we’ll be constantly developing amazing ways to keep you stay involved with us, your community & with all of our fantastic partners. The project ends with each participant receiving their NCS award on the pitch at half time during an Accrington Stanley home game next season.
The cost of a place on the NCS is only £20 and includes transport from Accrington Stanley, food, accommodation and equipment.
