Walking football in 2020

Over the next 12 months Accrington Stanley Community Trust are looking to further develop there already successful walking football provision across our area.

Walking football has become increasingly popular. It’s exactly what it sounds like – a standard game of football where players walk instead of run. It’s designed to help people get fit or maintain an active lifestyle no matter what their age and fitness, as well as support people getting back into football if they have given it up due to age or injury. Older people who play have seen many benefits: lower heart rate and blood pressure, less fat and more muscle, and better mobility. It’s not just health benefits – walking football also offers social benefits. Participants can meet new people, avoid becoming isolated, and interact with individuals and small groups. This is one sporting activity that is suitable for all.

Accrington Stanley Community Trust launched ‘Walking Football’ in January 2015 and we have 2 established weekly sessions:

Wednesdays 7:30pm – 8:30pm @ St Christophers High School BB5 4AY – Just £4

Fridays 1:30pm – 3pm @ Hyndburn Leisure Centre BB5 4EP – Just £4

Lee Walsh , Head of Sport at Stanley Trust said ‘walking football is a brilliant way to be active and play regular football, its suitable for those that require a slower paced version of the game, are coming back from injuries or are looking at either playing for the first time or for the first time in a while! Our current group of players are a friendly bunch and will welcome any new players with open arms’.

Over the year we also enter walking football teams in various competitions and festivals so if you’re looking at still playing competitively against like-minded people and representing Accrington Stanley there is plenty of opportunities to do so

If you are interested you are welcome to turn up at either of the sessions or if you would like more information please fill out the online form and we will get in touch with you. Alternatively you can phone us on 01254 304071.
