Week 4: Update from the Head Coach – Accrington Stanley Ladies FC

Accrington Stanley Ladies FC Head Coach, Bryn Tracey, gives an update on the return of grassroots football;

I am hoping everyone is well coming out of the second lockdown and looking forward to a great Christmas run up and a hopefully a prosperous and very different new year to 2020. I think we will all be glad to see the back of this very difficult year. The last four weeks have been challenging times and its been difficult for all connected with Accrington Stanley Ladies FC stuck in a lockdown once again and with no football. I know myself and the coaching team found it very frustrating and the players especially are desperate to get back to what they love doing. Football for them is their release so to be deprived of the the opportunity to have football for four weeks impacted very significantly on everybody.

This upcoming weekend, Saturday December 5th will see the ladies u18s team back in competitive action as we welcome Salford United u18s to the sports hub for a 12 noon Saturday lunch time kick off. The u18s have been unlucky in their first two league games and will be looking to bounce back and get three points on the board.

The ladies first team are not back in competitive action until next Sunday December 13th. We will be awaiting the new fixture schedule that is due out in the coming days to find out who we will continue our season against. The first team will be in action this Friday evening, December 4th, as we welcome Chorley Women to the sports hub for a friendly game. The game is intended to help the ladies blow the post lockdown cobwebs away and build on their fitness ready for the season restarting next weekend.

Other than the long term knee injury to captain Chantelle Dumbell and unavailability of first choice goalkeeper Sophie Chapman due to being away, we have a full squad to choose from. The ladies like myself will be hoping for a good solid performance and hopefully we can start to build the fitness levels up. Next weekend cannot come soon enough for the first team as we continue our quest for promotion into the North West Women’s Regional League.
