Walking Challenge with Abigail’s Trails – Sunday 22nd March 2026

Half Day Adventure Walk

Start your day with an energizing walk as we set off together on a scenic 7-mile (12km) journey, exploring some of the most beautiful countryside East of Accrington. Our route takes us first to the tranquil Coppice and Peel Park, then onto gently elevated farm tracks and pathways leading to Baxenden Golf Club. Along the way, enjoy stunning panoramic views across the valley toward Oswaldtwistle Moor and Green Haworth, making every step a visual delight.

The return leg offers a relaxing stroll along the cycle path, wrapping up our circuit through town. As we arrive back at Accrington Stanley Community Trust, you’ll be greeted with well-deserved refreshments—brews and delicious bacon butties (or other tasty options)—to celebrate your achievement.

This walk is perfect for those seeking a fun challenge, with 850 feet (260 meters) of elevation, a few stiles to cross, and stretches of uneven, potentially muddy ground—adding to the adventure. Suitable for families with children aged approximately 6 and up, it’s an ideal way to create lasting memories and share a sense of accomplishment in the great outdoors!

Ready to push your limits and discover breathtaking scenery? Join us for the Full Day Walk—an exhilarating journey perfect for adventurers who want more than just a stroll! This extended trek builds on our morning route, inviting you to continue (after a delicious refreshment break) on a second, longer loop northward along the Huncoat Trail. Enjoy a gentle start with an easy stretch beside the Leeds Liverpool Canal, then meander through enchanting woodlands that set the stage for what’s next.

As the day unfolds, embrace the challenge as you tackle a steep ascent through Hameldon Quarry—a true test of endurance and determination. Feel the anticipation rise as you approach the summit of Great Hameldon, where panoramic views reward your efforts and offer the perfect moment to reflect on your accomplishment.

The descent takes you across beautiful moorland paths, looping back to the iconic Coppice and ultimately retracing your steps to the Accrington Stanley Community Trust. There, you’ll receive a medal and experience an overwhelming sense of pride, knowing you’ve conquered one of the region’s toughest—and most memorable—walks.

This challenge covers a total of 17.5 miles (28 km) and climbs an impressive 2,225 feet (680 meters)—perfect for those with a good level of fitness who crave adventure. It’s suitable for older families too, as children aged around 10+ (accompanied by an adult) are welcome to join in the fun. Expect an incredible day out that may take up to 10 hours but promises lasting memories, camaraderie, and the satisfaction of knowing you gave it your all.

Join us for a morning or the full day of exploration, camaraderie, and beautiful countryside – this is more than just a walk, it’s an experience you won’t forget!
