changing ends
Changing ends is a program funded by the Premier League and the Police and Crime Commissionaire, which is ran through Accrington Stanley Community Trust.Â
The program is supporting young people aged 8-17 years old. Adopting a positive approach, mentors give their time to provide early help and early intervention to create a strong rapport and develop individuals with their personal development, well being and overall support throughout school and home life.
This programme is completely confidential and non judgemental.
As a community prevention program, we are specifically commissioned to work with children who are displaying early indicators of anti-social behaviours, and low-level risk-taking behaviour, and or a recent escalation in disruptive behaviours. These referrals are accepted based on evidence provided by the referrer that align with our criteria as set out by the home office and Premier League.
Otherwise, if a mentee shows a demonstrable new risk of escalating disruptive behaviours, linked to either lived experiences, ACE’s, or through known associations we would consider accepting a referral, with enough evidence and background information.
We are a community-based service, that can and does often offer support in school, and we aim to build trust through relational practice; the goal of the program is to build a better understanding around the root cause of their behaviours, and to build confidence and resilience in our clients to enable them to feel a valued and important member of their communities both in and out of school. Each community trust across Lancashire delivers this program slightly differently, offering small, targeted group work in schools and the community and also 1-2-1 mentoring for those children who are not able to access the group work offers.
On the PCC’s ladder of prevention we sit next to the Champions program which is in place to support children and young adults at the high-risk level. Our aim is to prevent children’s behaviour from escalating, and the need for the higher, more intensive level of mentoring support from the Champions.
Once a referral has been received, Community Trusts will liaise directly with referrers going forward regarding suitability for the program, to discuss any known risks, and to ensure the support offered will meet the needs of that specific child.
We need explicit signed consent from parents / carers to enable us to work with their children and to ensure that we are following all GDPR processes when recording information and progress on our secure systems.

The Police Partnership Program, Changing Ends, focusses on responding to early indicators of anti-social behaviour, and low-level criminality. The program offers timely diversionary support, and access to positive community activities to disrupt escalating behaviours and prevent progression to more serious criminal activity.Â
The program offers a range of support packages, delivered within schools and the community including 1-2-1 mentoring and small group work settings.Â
The program threshold sits above Premier League Kicks and below that of the LVRN Champions Program to provide a seamless ladder of support.
Participation is voluntary and relies on a positive approach from both the mentor, the young person and others involved in their support network.
Please complete as fully as possible to enable a full assessment of suitability. We’re unable to accept incomplete referral forms.Â
