Eight-week autumn campaign will encourage residents of all ages and abilities to move more, try new activities and build lasting active habits.
Accrington Stanley Community Trust is set to inspire local people to move more this autumn with the launch of its new Festival of Movement, an eight-week community campaign designed to encourage healthier, more active lifestyles across Hyndburn.
Running from 7 September to 31 October 2026, the Festival of Movement Sponsored by DES Group, will transform the Trust’s regular programme of activities into a vibrant festival line-up, packed with opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved, try something new and discover the benefits of an active lifestyle.
The campaign has been created in response to ongoing concerns around physical inactivity, with 27.9% of adults in Hyndburn classed as inactive and only 60.8% meeting recommended physical activity guidelines. Through participation challenges, reward schemes, community events and free taster opportunities, the Trust hopes to encourage more residents to take positive steps towards improving their health and wellbeing.
Throughout the festival, participants will be encouraged to attend activities across the Trust’s programme, including walking football, disability sport sessions, over-50s football, youth activities and community wellbeing initiatives. Incentives such as reward cards, bring-a-friend opportunities, activity challenges and prize draws will help make participation fun, accessible and rewarding.

The Festival of Movement will also celebrate the stories behind physical activity, showcasing local people’s experiences through a series of Festival Stories that highlight why movement matters and the positive impact it can have on physical health, mental wellbeing and social connection.
A key aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the wide range of opportunities already available through Accrington Stanley Community Trust and encourage residents who may not currently be active to take their first step towards a healthier lifestyle. The festival will also strengthen partnerships with local organisations and businesses, helping to build a stronger, more connected and more active community.
Sarah Hunt, Facility and Administration Manager, commented: “The Festival of Movement is all about showing people that being active does not have to be intimidating. Whether you are taking part in organised sport, walking with friends, joining a community session or simply being more active in your daily life, every movement counts. We want to celebrate the opportunities available in our community and inspire more people to get involved.”
