People living in Hyndburn are set to benefit from fresh investment into local football facilities. Accrington Stanley Community Trust have been awarded a grant of £250,000 from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation, to extend the current facilities at Stanley Sports Hub.

The Football Foundation is the UK’s largest sports charity and exists to improve the experience of playing football for everyone, by championing fair access to quality facilities.

This grant will enable Accrington Stanley Community Trust, to improve their indoor facilities to meet the demand of the local community.

The new extension includes an extended cafeteria area with views onto the 3G pitch. There will also be a large indoor activity space that can host up to 80 people. 3 additional classroom areas and multiple training and meeting rooms to cater for education, employability, health & wellbeing and local community groups. An outdoor seating area and a balcony will be created to provide fantastic elevated views onto the 3G pitch.

Accrington Stanley Community Trust worked with the Football Foundation and the Lancashire FA to secure a £250,000 grant towards the project.

Martin Fearon, CEO of Accrington Stanley Community Trust, said: “We’re delighted to secure more investment from the Football Foundation who are once again supporting community facilities in our area. The Stanley Sports Hub has only been open for just over 2 years, and we are investing a further £1m in the building to extend our facilities for the local community.”

Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “This grant award to Accrington Stanley Community Trust towards developing the indoor facilities is great news for the local community.

“It will support people’s ability to play our national game locally and therefore help unlock football’s many benefits to physical and mental wellbeing.  That’s why we’re committed to transforming the face of grassroots football facilities in this country.  It’s therefore very welcome news to hear that this funding will support Accrington Stanley Community Trust in developing their indoor spaces for their local community.

“The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA, government and Sport England – support facility development projects like this across the country over the next decade to transform our grassroots game and unlock the power of pitches.”
