ACCRINGTON STANLEY FOOTBALL COLLEGE

We have been delivering high quality and successful college education programmes since 2012. Over the years, we have developed courses which suit the interests of young people who enjoy Sport, and see the industry as a potential career path. Operating as a full time college course with an experienced staffing team, we provide a unique environment where learners can study within the setting of a professional club, and real life sporting business. There are many options for a career in sport, and our bespoke curriculum covers a wide range of topics that ensures students gain extensive knowledge around the world of sport.

 

Course Details:

  • Sport specific qualification that is practical based, with the Level 3 course equivalent to 3 A-Levels, allowing entrance to University
  • Full time college course based at the brand new, multi-million pound Stanley Sports Hub
  • Delivered by qualified tutors with a specialism in Sport
  • Extensive work based learning opportunities, along with access to FREE NGB qualifications and paid work
  • Minimum 5 hours of football training per week, by UEFA qualified coaches
  • Represent one of our teams and compete against Premier League and EFL Clubs in the CEFA 11v11 League including teams such as Manchester City, Preston, Fleetwood, Carlisle and Blackpool
    As a Football Education Student with Accrington Stanley Community Trust, your academic progression is taken as seriously as your sporting development. Once you have achieved your GCSE results you will be enrolled onto one of our two education programmes.

The BTEC Level 3 in Sport is a 2 year course which involves education, work experience, practical training and matches. The course follows the same structure as a college meaning students will find themselves in Monday-Friday within the hours of 9am-4pm term time only.

From September 2020, the Level 3 programme will be changing to the new BTEC Sport Coaching and Development (2019) pathway. The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with employers and professional bodies. This ensures that the content is appropriate and consistent with current industry practice, enabling learners to enter employment directly in sports coaching and development roles. Higher-education institutions have been consulted to ensure that the qualification allows appropriate progression for those aspiring to higher study such as University.

  • Practical Sports Application (Team and Individual Sports)
  • Sport Development
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sport
  • Careers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry
  • Health and Wellbeing in Sport
  • Self-Employment in Sport and Physical Activity

There are also optional units of study which include:

  • Nutrition for Physical Performance
  • Sporting Injuries
  • Fitness Testing
  • Fitness Training
  • Influence of Technology in Sport and Physical Activity

Entry Requirements: 

  • Available to students aged 16-19 on completion of their GCSE’s.
  • A minimum of 4 GCSE’s or equivalent at Grade 4 or above
  • A keen interest in the  sports or football industry
Progressions Routes:
  • University
  • USA Scholarships
  • Higher Apprenticeships
  • Career as Sports coach or Sport Development officer
  • Gym and Fitness instructor
  • Career as a Sports/PE Teacher (Primary, Secondary school or college)
 

The NCFE Level 2 in Sport- A one year course which involves education, work experience, practical training and matches. Successful completion allows access to our Level 3.

Units of Study:
  • Participating in Sport
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise
  • Physical Fitness and Injuries in Sport
  • Developing Sporting Skills and Tactical Awareness
  • Introduction to Healthy Exercise and Nutrition
  • Sports Coaching
  • Work Experience in the Sports Industry
  Entry Requirements:
  • Available to students aged 16-19 on completion of their GCSE’s.
  • A minimum of 2 GCSE’s or equivalent at grade 3’s or above
  • A keen interest in the sports or football industry
  Progressions Routes:
  • Progress onto our two year Level 3 BTEC course
  • Entry level qualification for a variety of Level 3 subjects
  • Apprenticeships

Virtual Learning Platform:

    • Student access to a virtual learning platform approved by the Department for Education
    • All students receive a personal log in, providing them with unlimited access
    • Additional learning resources available to support students
    • All tasks and assessments are uploaded to the platform
  Assessment: All assessed work is submitted via coursework and project format. This could include essay’s, presentations, practical delivery and workbooks. There are no exams on either course, allowing students to continually develop their academic skills as they receive regular feedback. This form of assessment enables learners to improve their grades as the year progresses.
