Accrington Stanley Community Trust is delighted to announce that we have formally submitted a planning application for the installation of Accrington’s first-ever padel courts at Stanley Sports Hub.

This exciting development represents another major step forward in our mission to provide high-quality, inclusive sporting opportunities for the Hyndburn community. The proposal includes two state-of-the-art, covered and floodlit outdoor padel courts, located on an underutilised part of our site. If approved, this will introduce one of the UK’s fastest-growing and most accessible sports to local residents for the very first time.

As a charity committed to improving health, education and community cohesion through sport, we believe padel will offer huge benefits for people of all ages and abilities. The courts will be fully open to the public via our existing online booking system, and we will also deliver a range of structured sessions including beginners’ coaching, disability-inclusive padel, school programmes, and walking padel aimed at older adults.

We are confident that this development will enhance the Stanley Sports Hub’s position as one of Lancashire’s leading community sports facilities. The addition of padel will support increased physical activity levels, encourage social participation, and attract new visitors to both the Hub and the surrounding area.

Martin Fearon, CEO of Accrington Stanley Community Trust said the development would significantly enhance the Hub’s sporting offer:

“Padel is an exciting, social and highly accessible sport. Bringing the first courts to Accrington will give local people the chance to try something new, be active with friends and family, and take part in a rapidly growing sport that appeals to all ages and abilities.”

The proposed courts have been designed with the local community in mind, ensuring responsible use of floodlighting and maintaining a high-quality environment for all Hub users and neighbours.

Subject to planning approval, we anticipate construction beginning in Spring 2026, with the courts opening to the public in Summer 2026.

We look forward to bringing this exciting new sport to Accrington and continuing to expand the opportunities available for our community to get active, connect, and thrive.
