Accrington Stanley Community Trust’s Champions Programme has successfully raised £1,039.26 to fund a publicly accessible Bleed Cabinet as part of Operation Sceptre – Knife Crime Awareness Week. The cabinet will be installed on the outside of Wham Stadium, ensuring it is available to the public at all times in the event of a serious bleeding injury.
A Bleed Cabinet contains vital emergency equipment designed to control severe bleeding following traumatic injuries, including those caused by knife attacks. Items typically include trauma dressings, tourniquets and protective equipment. In critical situations, immediate access to this kit can mean the difference between life and death by helping to stem blood loss before emergency services arrive.
The impressive total was raised through a series of meaningful and determined fundraising activities led by young people and mentors from the Champions Programme. These included:
- A 10-mile sponsored walk from Wham Stadium to Blackburn Cathedral, where participants left messages of reflection at the Knife Crime Memorial Bench.
- Cake sales organised by the young people
- A matchday collection at Accrington Stanley’s FA Cup fixture against Mansfield Town on 6th December
Each activity not only helped raise vital funds but also sparked important conversations around knife crime and community safety. Reflecting on this achievement, one of our Champions mentors Millie stated “I couldn’t be prouder of what our young people have achieved. They showed determination, compassion and real leadership throughout this fundraising journey. Knowing that their efforts will directly help save lives in our community makes this achievement even more special.”
Alongside the fundraising campaign, our Champions mentors also delivered a range of impactful activities throughout Operation Sceptre. This included:
- Funding first aid qualifications for a group of young people, with a strong focus on controlling bleeding in emergency situations
- Delivering knife crime awareness workshops to college students
- Engaging young people who attend the Trust’s Premier League Kicks sessions, helping educate them on the risks, consequences and prevention of knife crime
These activities aimed to empower young people with knowledge, confidence and practical skills to both stay safe and support others.
