Accrington Stanley Community Trust is delighted to announce that David Dunn has joined the organisation as an Ambassador, supporting its work to improve lives across Hyndburn through sport, education, and community engagement.

Born in Great Harwood, David’s appointment represents a home-grown connection to the Trust’s ongoing mission of creating opportunities for local people.

From Hyndburn Roots to the Premier League

Raised in Hyndburn, David began his football journey locally before signing for Blackburn Rovers, where he went on to make over 370 appearances across two spells and earned a call-up to the England national team in 2002. His playing career also included time with Birmingham City, followed by coaching and management roles at clubs such as Oldham Athletic, Blackpool, and Barrow.

Although best known for his long association with Blackburn Rovers, David remains proud of his Lancashire roots and the values shaped by his upbringing in the Hyndburn area.

“I’m really proud to be involved with Accrington Stanley Community Trust,” said David. “Growing up locally, I know how important organisations like this are in giving young people a focus, helping communities come together, and offering support through sport and education. It’s something I’m really passionate about being part of.”

Supporting Local Community Initiatives

As an Ambassador, David will support the Trust’s wide-ranging programmes, which include education, health and wellbeing projects, youth engagement, and sports participation. His experience in professional football and coaching will be a valuable asset in inspiring participants and supporting the Trust’s continued growth.

Martin Fearon, CEO of Accrington Stanley Community Trust, said:
“David is a great addition to our ambassador team. His local background, experience in football, and commitment to helping others make him a strong advocate for what we do. We’re really looking forward to working with him.”

A Local Connection with a Wider Impact

While David’s football career took him to the top levels of the game, his support of a Hyndburn-based organisation highlights the Trust’s ability to engage influential figures from across the region who share its values of opportunity, inclusion, and community spirit.
