Stanley Trust says ‘YES’ to the NCS!

We are delighted to launch our summer 2015 NCS Project!

The NCS brings together 16-17 year olds from different backgrounds in a programme of challenge, service and learning, enabling them to develop the confidence, skills and attitudes they need to become more engaged with their communities and become active and responsible citizens whilst having an amazing and enjoyable time on the fun and action packed programme. It’s also a great opportunity for the club to engage with young people and give something back to the community.

The NCS has 3 parts, a 4 day outdoor pursuit’s trip, 3 days spent at ASFC completing First Aid and Sports Leaders Award then the group deliver a community project to tackle any local issues they feel are concerning them. NCS Officer Lee Walsh explains ‘the NCS is a brilliant way for these young people to have the time of their lives while learning new skills and making a massive difference to the lives of local people’. The cost of a place is only £20 which includes transport, accommodation, food, activities and an official Stanley NCS T-shirt.

After completing the project each young person receives a certificate on the pitch at a Stanley home game, they will also receive a £20 high street voucher as a thank you. Community manager Martin Fearon says ‘it’s a chance for teenagers to do something positive in their spare time and get something really unique on their CV’s’.

Jonathon Braithwaite (16) who completed the NCS during 2014 urges young people to get involved:

‘I think that NCS was one of the most interesting  and enjoyable experiences I have ever had and I think that lots of people would enjoy this and I would love to go on it again’
