Try New Walking Football Sessions for FREE!

After receiving funding from Sport England we are pleased to announce the introduction of two new walking football sessions. These will be held on a Tuesday evening at Accrington Academy High School and will consist of a new all-female session and a men’s session.

Our schedule of walking football sessions now looks like this;

  • Tuesday’s 6pm-7pm. Female Walking football @ Accrington Academy High School. Cost, FREE throughout May (indoor)
  • Tuesdays 7pm-8pm. Male Walking Football @ Accrington Academy High School. Cost, FREE throughout May (indoors)
  • Friday 1:30pm-3pm. Mixed Walking Football @ Hyndburn Leisure Centre. Cost £4 (indoors/outdoors depending on weather)

Head of Sport Lee Walsh explains ‘’this new funding means we can build on our very successful and long running Friday Walking Football session. It allows us make the sport more accessible to people who perhaps still work during the day or have other commitments. As well as the weekly sessions there will be the opportunity to represent Accrington Stanley in various events & festivals over the year for those that would like to.’’

Walking football is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and is great way for those over the age of 45 to stay active and continue to play the sport they love. Craig Addison (age 57) who is a regular attendee on our Friday session say ‘’Walking football provides the opportunity for players my age to carry on playing, it’s an excellent way to stay fit and healthy and a great place to meet new friends. The sessions have a good atmosphere and everyone is made to feel welcome’’

The new female Walking Football session will be the first of its kind in Hyndburn and means Accrington Stanley Community Trust now cater for female football from age 2 upwards.

We strongly encourage anybody to come and have a go, it doesn’t matter about your previous experience or ability, the sessions are fun and inclusive.
