This week has seen our BTEC scholars representing Accrington Stanley in the EFL Trust Futsal Trophy at Derby Velodrome.

They were drawn in a group with Birmingham City, Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth Argyle and Rotherham. They started the day by playing Rotherham which ended in a 3 -1 defeat, they were incredibly unlucky hitting the post 5 times. They finished the day by playing Sheffield Wednesday.

Unfortunately on this occasion they came bottom of their group, but the experience and the confidence it has given our scholars is something that can’t be learnt in classes. By taking part in competitions such as this one allows our scholars to put into practice the skills and techniques’ they are taught in lessons as well as allowing them to get playing practice.

Lee Walsh, Head of Sport who accompanied the team down to Derby commented, ‘The boys played their hearts out and gave it their all. They came up against some stiff competition but showed great determination and were a credit to the Club. ‘
