Spring NCS programme

Spring NCS programme

Our spring National Citizenship Service (NCS) programme is nearing the end for another year with just the social action and graduation to complete.

The young people enjoyed a residential trip to the borders of Scotland to Rock UK where they took part in outdoor activities such as zip lining, abseiling, night walks and high ropes. Despite the poor weather conditions all of the young people had a brilliant but muddy adventure!

Kathryn Hoyle, NCS Officer comment, ‘ it was great to see everyone get involved and take part in all of the activities that Rock UK and ourselves put on for them.’

On their return to Accrington they dived straight into their social action planning and delivery where they worked as a team to plan an event that would help the local community or charity.

One of the teams has held a cake stall on Accrington market on a cold Saturday morning to raise money for the Salvation Army. While the second group decided that they wanted to make a difference in the community by visiting local primary school and carrying out a coaching session.

By taking part in the NCS programme a once in a lifetime opportunity, these young people have learnt how to work in team and problem solve in a fun manner while making new friendships or learning more about those that they already know.

If you or someone you know is interested in joining a NCS programme and are aged 16 to 17 years old, don’t fear there’s still chance to get on our summer programme starting on 31st July.

The summer programme is a longer programme that lasts for four weeks and consists of:

  • A weeks residential to Alton Castle in Staffordshire, returning home at the weekend
  • A weeks residential at Lancaster University for independent living and life skills returning home at the weekend.
  • The final two weeks are made up of the social action planning and delivery.
