Great start to the year!

Great start to the year!

Accrington Stanley have been grabbing the headlines for their good form in 2017 this is also mirrored in the success of our community projects. Take a look below and see what we have been up too.

Our Premier league Kicks programme has seen over 250 local young people take part in sessions since it was launched as well as an additional Friday session being added due to its growing popularity. The programme is free for any 11-19 year old to attend and aims provide an activity for local young people where there isn’t a lot for them to do in order to help reduce anti-social behaviour.

Not to be out done by the youngsters our Walking football session held every week has also seen participant numbers increase from last year. To help the player’s better monitor their health we have teamed up with the ‘Up and Active’ team for a free weigh in at the start of the session. We are hoping to get a team together for the EFL Walking Football Cup later this year!

Our Kinder Sport Move and Learn programme has been successfully received by over 30 local primary schools keeping our coaches very busy! The free 6 week programme promotes a healthy lifestyle and exercise, with both a theory and practical aspect making up the weekly lessons. Feedback from the schools that have completed the programme has been very positive in regards to the content and the delivery of it by our staff, which we are very proud of.

We have been in more primary schools with our after school sessions that have ranged from football & hockey to Multi Sports and tag rugby. Not to be left behind our after school sessions in Hyndburn’s secondary schools has seen participant numbers continue to increase. They have also seen a keen interest form girls wanting to take part in sport with over 350 being engaged since the sessions were started this academic year.

As part of our Football Education Project we encourage our Btec students to get involved with our work to help build their CVs and enhance their learning. We have recently seen three first year student reaching over 100 hours of volunteering through our school sessions as well as match days, fun days and holiday courses.

A big success so far this year is our holiday courses, which run every school holiday and see over 50 children attending daily with plenty of new faces attending alongside the regulars! Children have the option of taking part in our Soccer Schools or Activity Club

Our match days continue to be popular with the local grassroots team who we invite down to experience what it is like to walk out with Stanley and play on the pitch at half time. Match days have also seen the Trust team up with GAME Accrington to launch a Game zone, where young supporters from both teams can try their hand on FIFA 17!

As well as producing some incredible appearances on the pitch, Stanley’s first team have been attending some of the Trusts sessions surprising young and old fans alike. Not to be left out Winstanley has been earning his keep making surprise appearances throughout the year too.
