Accrington Stanley Community Trust is delighted to announce that it has successfully secured funding from the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) to launch an exciting new programme supporting Royal Navy and Royal Marines veterans and their families across Hyndburn and the surrounding area.
The Veterans & Families Wellbeing Network – Transition, Wellbeing & Community has been developed to help veterans navigate the challenges that can come with life after service, providing practical support, opportunities to improve wellbeing and stronger connections within the local community. The programme builds on the Trust’s well-established veterans provision, creating an even more comprehensive package of support for those who have served.
Throughout the year, veterans will receive personalised transition support tailored to their individual circumstances, helping them with areas such as employment, financial wellbeing, housing, physical and mental health, and social integration. Alongside this, participants will have access to regular wellbeing workshops, veterans’ football sessions, breakfast clubs and social activities designed to reduce isolation and build confidence.
Recognising that military transition affects the whole family, the programme will also introduce dedicated Family Resilience Circles, offering support to partners and immediate family members through group sessions, family activities and opportunities to connect with others who share similar experiences. The aim is to strengthen family relationships while creating lasting peer support networks that continue beyond the life of the project.
As part of the programme, veterans will also have the opportunity to become peer mentors, helping to build a sustainable community where lived experience supports others making the transition into civilian life.
Rhian Sabatino, Head of Community Engagement at Accrington Stanley Community Trust, said:
“We are incredibly proud to have been awarded funding from the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity. Supporting veterans has always been something we’re passionate about, and this funding allows us to build on the fantastic community we’ve already established.
Leaving the Armed Forces is a significant life change, not only for veterans but for their families too. This programme will provide practical support, improve wellbeing and create opportunities for people to build meaningful friendships and lasting support networks. We are excited to continue making a real difference to those who have served our country.”
The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) is the principal charity of the Royal Navy, supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families. Since 2007, the charity has funded projects and organisations that improve the lives of the Naval community.
The Veterans & Families Wellbeing Network will begin later this year, with further information on referrals and opportunities to get involved being announced in the coming months.
